Lord Byron, Benjamin Disraeli, the Duke of Wellington, Virginia Woolf, Ernest Hemingway, Robert Graves... they, and countless others, had one thing in common: they all visited Spain and had plenty to say about the country.

In this unique anthology David Mitchell, himself a respected observer of Spanish life, brings together the impressions of four centuries of foreign travellers in Spain. The result is a collection of the most outrageous, adoring, insulting, libellous, passionate, hilarious, thoughtful, bigoted and eloquent remarks ever made about a country.

Travellers in Spain, one of the Santana Classics series, is an invaluable key to understanding the Spanish character and to comprehending why Spain has continued to exercise such a singular fascination as a destination over the centuries.
