The sierras of this book are the Serranía de Ronda merging with the Sierra de Grazalema and the highlands of the province of Cádiz.Author Alastair Boyd first came to the region in the late fifties and made a series of journies by horse into the surrounding countryside which were magically captured in his book The Road from Ronda. He returned to Ronda in the nineties to see if the Arcadia that he had discovered all those years ago still existed. The Sierras of the South describes what he found. This is a highly evocative book enhanced by reading in conjunction with its Santana Classics predecessor referred to above, of which a small stock is still available directly from the publisher.

About the author

Alastair Boyd

Alastair Boyd was born in 1927. After serving in the Irish Guards and working for a spell in the City of London, he moved to Andalusia in 1957 which is the setting for the personal experiences related in his two books for Santana. In the mid-seventies he repatriated to London and was an active member of the House of Lords for the next twenty years. He returned permanently to Spain in 1998 and now lives with his wife Hilly, mother of the novelist Martin Amis, on a small farm outside Ronda. In apology for the untidyness of his life he describes himself as a "diligent dilettante".
